Celebrated Moms: Baby Shower Bliss: Our Family Baby Shower

Baby Shower Bliss: Planned by Both Families

I know my last post was a bit of a “downer,” so here’s a happier one. It’s baby shower time… well it was baby shower time. We decided to have a “Mid-West” baby shower while we were home for the holidays. I’m a Detroit native and my husband is a Chicago native, so after enlisting my sister and my mother-in-law to plan the shower they decided to hold it in his hometown, since we would be there at the end of our stay. Planning our baby shower during the holidays had to be very trying since both Christmas Eve and New Years Eve fell on a Saturday, which is traditionally the day for baby showers. Our families decided to hold the shower on Friday, December 30th and since most people were already off work for the holiday it worked out nicely. My immediate family and a few friends drove over from Detroit to join us and most of his family and friends came out, so it was a very festive event. It made me feel good to see so many people come out to celebrate the impending birth of our son. Unlike my previous post, no one was obsessing about our “lack” of the wedding they were very supportive of our union and excited about the future for us.

Highlights:

Present opening—We were both overwhelmed with the number of gifts that we received, since it was the holiday season and we figured there would be lots of rain checks on our gifts. Seriously, our son will not need clothes aside from special occasions for at least the first year of his life. We got most of the necessities and enough gift cards to take care of the rest. I’m so excited to start working on putting his room together in the coming weeks. Oh and did I mention he’s already getting packages in the mail? Yup…

THE CAKE: OMG!!! My sister not only made sure the cake was decorated beautifully, but it was absolutely delicious. I’m still sad that I only had one piece.

Family and Friends: I was really happy to see our families blending well and everyone getting along. There was no drama and no one competing or attempting to outshine the others. My son is being born into such a loving environment and I couldn’t have asked for more. Since I haven’t gotten permission from our families, I won’t include pictures of them just yet.

Overall, it was a wonderful day and I’m so grateful to our families for making it possible.
